Reflective journal post
In the past quarter, a group of students and I have worked on a life size trebuchet. At first, we started by building a small scale prototype. We took the many factors, such as weight or the projectile and counterweight and length of the wood used in the large scale model. About two weeks into constructing the prototype, we redesigned it with a larger boom and more stable counterweight holder. I won't lie, things started off rath shaky. It took a few weeks for the small scale model's additions to work properly, as the counterweight holder would often fall apart and the sling was flimsy and needed rethinking. After roughly one and a half weeks, we were able to make out small scale model function properly. The next big step was to get the materials for the actual trebuchet. When we ordered our wood and screws and got the tools from the wood shop, we immediately began our work. Currently, we have the boom completed and are working on the base. So far, so good.
